Putin: Russia to replace US dlr with natl currencies in some cases

ST. PETERSBURG, Jun 7 (PRIME) -- Russia doesn’t want to cancel all settlements in U.S. dollars, but has to do that in some cases as the U.S. uses its national currency as a sanctions tool, President Vladimir Putin said on June 5 during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“We are not striving to get away from the U.S. dollar … This is not like that,” he said.

Russia should switch its settlements with other countries in some economic spheres into the national currencies as Washington uses the U.S. dollar for different sanctions. Oil companies also don’t want to walk away from the dollar settlements, but they will have to find a way of de-dollarization if they are forced to do that.

“It will be a serious blow for the U.S. dollar as the global reserve currency,” he said.
